Immigration

Immigration is a complex and polarized issue.

The Research Team has identified several concerns/problem areas:

1. Lack of access to legal representation 
2. Understanding our local law enforcement’s obligations to ICE under 287G agreements.
3. Understanding implications of current and proposed state immigration laws.
4. Incorrect and biased information about immigrants and immigration.
5. Walking alongside other organizations promoting immigrant’s stories and providing services to immigrant families.

Our goal is to ensure just treatment of immigrants in our community and to publicly recognize the value of our immigrant neighbors. This includes our refugee neighbors.

The Team has formed sub-teams to work in the areas above. Activities to date include meeting with local officials and with immigration attorneys and immigrant rights coalitions.

We are exploring possible educational forums and opportunities to speak with businesses impacted by the administration’s policies toward immigrants.
