The Blueprint Board voted 9-2 on November 7, 2023, to initiate the process for using Blueprint Infrastructure funds to purchase land to be leased to developers of affordable rental housing who agree to set aside units for families with very-low and extremely low incomes. Staff will prepare a draft project description and an analysis of how it could be funded for the next Board meeting in late February 2024. This is an essential first step toward addressing the dire shortage of rental housing in our community that working families with very-low and extremely-low incomes can afford. CAJM looks forward to working with staff and affordable rental housing experts to develop a project concept that will provide effective incentives for affordable rental housing developers to set aside more units for these families who face daily challenges paying for rent, food, transportation, health care, and childcare.
